About Us

Hello and thanks for visiting Small Business Matters.

My name is Richard Arnold and I own and operate Key Concept Services, Inc. (KCS).  I started KCS in the early 90s with a focus on assisting clients in the automotive aftermarket with many clients related to the collision repair industry. We have since branched out to many, many different industries and unrelated businesses.  Our broad experience is one of our advantages and a benefit to you – if you decide to engage our services.

Our business has grown and prospered because I believe we do a lot of things right. We treat people right. We’re honest. We admit our mistakes as soon as we discover we made one. We know problem resolution is part of business. We know you have to sometimes fail before you can succeed. And we specialize in assisting small businesses fine-tune and focus their messages – both internally to employees and externally to customers.

We don’t believe small business marketing is brain surgery.  But no matter your budget, you can and should have a marketing plan. We do believe marketing is an essential and important aspect of any overall business plan. Some believe “marketing” and “sales” are synonymous – we don’t. Marketing is how you define your business, promote your business, advertise your business and maintain a relationship with your customers.

There are many definitions of marketing but the basic definition is the same. Superior marketing is and always has been analysis, then action. It is strategy development, then logical and thought-out tactical implementation.  It is the way to customer satisfaction and increasing your business profit.  Ergo, as my header states:

Marketing is everything you do to bring a customer to the point of sale.

Marketing is every contact you have with your customers or potential customers, whether it’s sponsoring your local Little League team, placing an online ad or Yellow Page ad, or even the way your receptionist or employees answer the phone.  Each interaction positions your business in the mind of the customer. And we believe Positioning is very important.

I’m a big Napoleon Hill fan. I’ve read all of his books. If you don’t know him or his works, I highly recommend learning more. I leave you with this quote from Napoleon Hill that I read everyday to inspire me.

“First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality.  The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.” ~ Napoleon Hill
